Last year, during the plenary session of the General Assembly of INTERPOL in New Delhi, NIK officially replaced the Supreme Audit Institution of Canada. During this year’s plenary session in Vienna, NIK President presented the results of the financial and performance audit as well as recommendations made by the INTERPOL audit team. In its audits NIK adheres to the International Standards of Supreme Audit Institutions (ISSAI), independence and objectivism guaranteed by the Constitution of the Republic of Poland as well as ensuring transparency and the adversary procedure in the audit process.
This year marks the100th anniversary of INTERPOL – it was founded in 1923 in Vienna. The Polish Police has been its member from the very beginning. At that time, Poland was among 20 countries which saw an urgent need to facilitate the Police cooperation across borders. The world has changed ever since, with nearly 200 countries now being members of the organisation, and the still growing need for the Police cooperation all over the world. INTERPOL is the only organisation providing technical infrastructure to the Police to cooperate and exchange information about global security threats to citizens and states. Currently INTERPOL, playing the key role in the security architecture worldwide, represents stability, neutrality and trust in a fast-changing environment. The organisation takes advantage of its 100-year experience to help its member states meet new challenges related to the Police objectives for the next century.
