NIK President Marian Banaś addressed independence of the Polish SAI at the meeting in Paris

President Marian Banaś presented other SAI Heads and representatives of donators’ communities gathered at the meeting with a report prepared by IDI as part of the SAI Independence Rapid Advocacy Mechanism (SIRAM).

A shattering assessment report on system constraints on independence of the Supreme Audit Office of Poland

NIK President underlined that since September 2023 the functioning of NIK has been paralysed because of incomplete composition of the NIK Council. Marian Banaś had already alarmed the United Nations Organisation (UN) and the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI).

NIK President has alarmed international organisations

Both the UN and INTOSAI actively support the concept of SAI independence as a critical element for proper functioning of democratic states. Only a SAI which is fully independent from both the executive and legislative powers can reliably and objectively evaluate the state functioning. The concept of SAI independence was accentuated in the UN resolutions no. A/66/209 of 2011 and no. A/69/228 of 2019, and previously in the INTOSAI Lima Declaration of 1977 and the Mexico Declaration of 2007.
