Meeting of the Heads of NIK and the Belgian SAI

NIK President Marian Banaś thanked the SAI of Belgium for is activity in the Subcommittee, particularly for its support of Polish proposals of activities in the Subcommittee.

The Heads of NIK and the Belgian SAI discussed cooperation in the INTOSAI Subcommittee, plans of the SAI of Belgium to develop an IT analysis methodology for financial data, as well as closer cooperation of internal control teams and external auditors. They also addressed cooperation as part of EUROSAI. They discussed initial plans to prepare the peer review of NIK by a team of auditors from the SAI of Belgium, the SAI of Estonia and the SAI of the Czech Republic which is to be the team leader.

Ms. President underscored the significance of SAIs’ independence for effective audit of the government spending and requested NIK President to provide the final version of the SIRAM report after NIK receives it.

At the end of the meeting the President of the Belgian Court of Audit invited NIK President to a meeting at the ministerial level scheduled for 7 May 2024, after Belgium takes over the chairmanship in the Council of the European Union.

The Belgian Court of Audit consists of the panel of 12 magistrates. They are appointed by the House of Representatives for the term of 6 years and may be reappointed. The Court of Audit is made up of a French-speaking and a Dutch-speaking chamber which together form the general assembly: https://www.courdescomptes.be/EN/
